to the North Coast Branch of Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA), part of Australia’s largest and most iconic volunteer movement which has been serving the community for over 100 years. Surf Life Saving Australia is Australia’s peak coastal water safety, drowning prevention and rescue authority. We are an inclusive and uniquely Australian movement which offers people young and old the opportunity to make a difference, make friends and maybe save a life.
The North Coast Branch is one of 11 Branches in NSW and is home to eight of the 129 clubs up and down our eastern coastline. Our Branch covers over 100km of coastline, extending from Minnie Waters-Wooli in the north to Nambucca Heads in the south.
We are a group of passionate and dedicated volunteers who embrace everything it means to be active members of our beautiful coastal communities. We offer mateship, health and fitness, teamwork, personal development, education and an opportunity to serve the communities we live in and love.
There’s something for everyone at every age and stage of life. If you are unable to perform the duties of an active surf lifesaver, there’s opportunities in the areas of administration, communications, beach surveillance or fundraising.
For people young and old, Surf Life Saving inspires a positive and uniquely Australian attitude. Newcastle Permanent has been a customer owned bank since 1903 and they’re “here for good”. As a mutual building society there are no shareholders to pay. Instead they return profits to customers and the regional communities they operate in through better interest rates, competitive fees and financial support through our community involvement and extensive sponsorship program.
Newcastle Permanent’s relationship with Surf Life Saving has provided support for more than 35 years. This support assists our Branch and its Clubs to purchase essential safety equipment and perform volunteer patrols to keep our community safe. It also provides training and leadership programs for our youth which includes the Junior Lifesaver of the Year Program, Youth Opportunity Maker Workshop and the Under 14’s Development camp. These initiatives nurture our Surf Life Savers of tomorrow to become proud, confident and motivated members and future leaders of our community.
