woolgoolga Report

Woolgoolga SLSC had a number of athletes proudly representing the club at the recent Australian Titles held on the Sunshine Coast. The boat section had 4 crews competing throughout the week, all of whom qualified through the round cuts to compete in finals. The Masters 120yrs Womens crew, the “No Points”, finished the first day of competition by bringing home a gold medal! On the same day, the 220yrs Mens crew, the “Long Strokers” made it through to the final and finished in 6th place. Day 2 of competition saw the Open Womens team competing in the Short Course event, in which they had 7 races throughout the day. The Whippets narrowly missed the podium to finish in 4th place. The Barracudas were competing in the Reserve Men’s division which had the highest number of competitors in the week, and made it through to the quarter finals. The Whippets again competed on Thursday and Friday in the Open Women, and made it as far as the Semi Finals on Saturday. The team has also been recognised as the 9th ranked Open Women crew in the country. Thank you to the Boat Captain, Trevor Clark, and sweeps of the crews, Damien McSkimming and Tim White.

Woolgoolga SLSC also had 3 competitors in beach events which were held at Mooloolaba. Damon Striegher, Shari Genoli and Lindy Schofield all competed in the beach sprint, and Shari and Lindy were both also competitors in Flags. Both Shari and Damon qualified for the Semi Finals in their respective categories, and did the club proud. Lindy Schofield also ran the 2k beach event, and was outstanding in the Short Board Surfing, where she earned Woolgoolga another Aussie podium finish, winning a Bronze Medal!

Congratulations to all competitors, and enjoy the well-earned rest during the off season!
