Celebrating 50 years of IRB’s in Surf Life Saving

Authored by: Amy Hannaford

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the IRB in Surf Lifesaving, Soldiers Beach, as pioneers, recreated the original expedition life savers undertook to showcase technology that would change the way lives were saved at the beach.

The team left Sydney Harbour on 2 September and arrived in Coolangatta on 5 September in time for the World Lifesaving Championships on the Gold Coast. On the way through, they dropped into Sawtell Beach on 4 September to refuel and change crews.
