Twenty-five enthusiastic U14 participants came together with our dedicated facilitators and chaperones for an action-packed weekend of learning, challenge, and plenty of laughter.
Across the two days, participants tackled SkyWire, Ladder Logs, Team Rescue, Zorb Ball, and pool sessions. Each activity encouraged teamwork, communication, and leadership — and our young leaders rose to the challenge. Many pushed through personal fears with incredible resilience, all while cheering each other on and building a genuine sense of unity.
And if belly flop was an Olympic sport, we’d have struck gold. Mia Ryan took out the unofficial title in spectacular style, with Ethan coming in a very close second — despite putting his head down at the last second! The energy only lifted from there, as a spontaneous talent show rolled straight into a full-blown dance fest, keeping everyone entertained well into the afternoon. It was fantastic to see our facilitators right in the mix, proving they’re just as game as the participants when it comes to fun.
Throughout the camp, we also delivered workshops on leadership, SMART goals, surf lifesaving pathways, mock interviews, and even a little first-aid fun. These sessions offered valuable insight into the broader world of surf lifesaving and helped spark inspiration in our next generation of young leaders.
Every participant should be incredibly proud of what they achieved across the weekend.
A huge thank you goes to our fantastic facilitators and chaperones — Kim Wiggins, Troy Claydon, Mitanne Doughney, Cath Ninness, Matt Halakas, Shaun Powell, Patrick Mullan, Aedan Connolly, Ethan Dawson, Payton Lawler, Lillian Lougher, James Freeman, and Chantelle Claydon. Your guidance, energy, and willingness to lean into every activity helped shape a supportive, vibrant environment where our U14s could shine. The strong youth facilitator team was especially valuable, offering relatable role models and contributing to the positive vibe throughout camp.
We’re certain many great friendships were formed — and memories made that will last far beyond the weekend.
Thank you to the Branch Board of Directors, Nicole Slater, and Kerry Clancy for their continued support and encouragement.
And a special thank you to Ashleigh Slater for her work in the early planning stages of the camp.
