Sawtell SLSC has had a change of leadership and we would like to welcome both Pete (president) and Adam (secretary), we are looking forward to another season with some fresh blood and ideas. Firstly, I want to thank both Sheena and Bruce on both their outstanding roles and role model they have achieved within the club, and we are very thankful for all they have done. They have both set a high benchmark to follow. The committee will continue to extend on both their hard work which got us here today.

As the season approaches, we are busy with getting prepared. We currently have our IRB drivers course running and a lot of behind the scene work getting done.  67 Sawtell members achieved 100% of their patrol duties last season. Back in June we celebrated our awards of excellence night with our major award winners and age champions. We were proud to award the National Patrol Service award to Mark Fagan (10 years), Hugh Goddard (10 years), Steve Foster (15 years), Fiona Lane (15 years), Scott Rasyon (20 years) and Neil Robertson (20 years). The Long Service award went to Jeff Holmes (25 years), Graeme King (25 years), Cheryl Lane (25 years), Dennis Meagher (25 years), Neil Roberson (25 years), Kevin Clancy (30 years), and Bruce Macphail (30 years).

Sawtell has signed up for the 3rd year for the Gotcha4life 24hour row coming up on 10 and 11 September. We are looking forward to getting everyone back together for this wonderful charity event.

Sawtell Surf Club was contacted to assist with SLS Flood Evacuation efforts In Kempsey during the recent heavy rainfall.  Huge thank you to Greg and Alex who volunteered at very short notice to travel with the IRB to Kempsey to perform these duties.  The community spirit of these two members is to be applauded. Well done and thank you to you both.

Even though the new Nippers season has not yet started, there is still plenty going on.  Nippers can attend training on Sunday mornings at 9am at Sawtell.  During the winter when the ocean swell size can be smaller, it is a great chance for Nippers to improve their skills and increase their confidence. Bring your wetsuit if you feel the cold, goggles and pink rashie.

We have a few training sessions coming up for our nippers with the support of Black Head and the Manly camp. For more information, please see the club Facebook page.
